INSIDE - Personal Ehibition at the Villa de Bank Gallery, Enschede
Into the heart of the Villa de Bank, INSIDE breathed for three weeks then passed away.
This digital and interactive project was meant to invite the audience to plunge into another reality - not the dreaming dimension but the dreamlike one, the time of questioning.
INSIDE would set its own rhythm, it had a breath of its own. The works displayed were shaped in a continuous loop, autonomous, so “death” or “ending” would not belong to the show. It had been alive before the tour and it would still live after.Thus, the relative peace of the exhibition coupled to the visitor’s silence would deepen the immersion into that timeless world.
The swaying of the showings, the combination of their shimmers and shadings, responding to the playing lights of the tv-monitors, blurred the relief of the walls, which were floating as if animated ; the muffled calls would drag down the onlooker even more deeply into their womb.
Inside that house, into these rooms, we would guess the inner land of a self. The shutting away was not physical but psychic. A reclusion where the only and blind window leading into the outside world was a video screen, where the last room, hoped for like an escape route, was no more than a dead end. A dead end wich would work as a pendulum in full retroaction, driving the visitor back into the maze of the exhibition.
A survivor’s pleasure would be found in the pure fact of leaving those dark areas to reach for the sunlight, flowing through the glass veranda of the entrance hall.
The day was not over, death had not walked in ; the visitor was back into the whispering world of the living. That crossing had merely been a digression in time, an introspective flash.
The eerie atmosphere of that performance was imbued with classical romanticism and existential spleen all along, wihile being provided with a different processing through the multimedia application.
INSIDE was designed into and for the Villa de Bank ; the pieces of work exposed were indivisible at their core. Their relocation in a new Villa would alter their singular quality ; the best evolution would consist in developping an original exhibition, with a fresh play unfolding in brand new rooms.
I would try to put some timing deep to my interactive schemas ; to talk about the timing print, the space memory, the dust, the walls, its inhabitants, its ghosts. Maybe create a monster. The real and fictive passing time will alter the project’s aspect and interactivity.
But keeping the romantic and poetic view into the numeric and interactive representation.
INSIDE exhibition was composed with :
